The Carrousel garden is a space located east of the Tuileries garden, on the Louvre side, between the Marsan wing and the Flore wing of the Louvre Museum.

The Tuileries Palace burned down in 1871, razed in 1883 and never rebuilt, was located approximately where the Avenue du Général Lemonnier is today.

The Carrousel garden is a space located east of the Tuileries garden, on the Louvre side, between the Marsan wing and the Flore wing of the Louvre Museum. To book a visit to the Louvre, click here.

History and location of the garden

The Tuileries Palace burned down in 1871, razed in 1883 and never rebuilt, was located approximately where the Avenue du Général Lemonnier is today. In the photo gallery opposite, you can see the overall plan, from right to left (from East to West), the Louvre, the Carrousel garden, the location of the Tuileries Palace, now disappeared, then the Tuileries garden, then the Place de la Concorde.

L'Histoire and La France Victorieuse, works by Antoine-François Gérard, frame the triumphal arch of the Carrousel which marks the main entrance to the garden.
