Café & Restaurant: Le Village The History of Village Royal Inaugurated in 1746, this passage has existed for over 270 years. In 1746, a passage was created along a building that housed the royal guard of Louis XIII, the famous Musketeers. From the second half of the 18th century onward, the 8th arrondissement became a fashionable district as financiers and the upper bourgeoisie gradually abandoned the overcrowded Marais. The passage, which would later become Village Royal, arrived just in time. Aguesseau Market sets up there. Its stalls of fresh produce, butchers, fishmongers, and other food vendors quickly attract Parisians from the surrounding neighborhoods. The butchers set up on the left, while the fishmongers, bakers, and greengrocers take their places on the right. Buildings are constructed all around, and the place becomes a true village in the heart of the city. A century later, the complex takes the name of "Cité Berryer." It is a tribute to the lawyer Pierre-Nicolas Berryer (1757–1841), a famous opponent of Napoleon III who left his mark on his era. A village in the city, perfectly located.
