The number of key “must-see” attractions for a first 3-day visit to Paris

We’ve divided your 3-day stay into 3 “areas of interest” (3 sectors), one per day. Each day, all the key (the “must-sees”) and secondary points of interest have been carefully selected to be geographically close. In total, there are 60 well-documented points of interest—so no unnecessary running from one end of Paris to the other. Here’s our proposed itinerary:

Day 1: Concorde Square – Champs-Élysées – Charles de Gaulle Square – Arc de Triomphe – Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Plus, if you’re not too tired: Pigalle district – Montmartre Butte

Day 2: Eiffel Tower – Trocadéro – Quai Branly Museum – Seine cruises – Crazy Horse Cabaret

Day 3: Musée d’Orsay – Tuileries Garden – Carrousel Arc de Triomphe, Louvre Museum – Île de la Cité (Square du Vert-Galant – Sainte-Chapelle, Conciergerie, Palais de Justice) and Notre-Dame.

You won’t have time to see or visit everything—and that’s intentional. This way, you can choose in advance or on-site whether to skip a point of interest in favor of another that interests you more, without leaving any empty time to fill.

Here are a few rules we’ve also taken into account for organizing your detailed itinerary below:

Time allocation rules

  • Allow 2 to 3 hours per museum. The Louvre or Orsay deserve this time. Two hours may be enough for smaller museums.

  • We limited visits to 1.5 hours per monument. If the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, or Notre-Dame are on your itinerary, they can be visited in this time frame if you’ve booked to skip the lines. Opt for early morning slots.

  • A Seine cruise lasts 2 hours; with lunch or dinner, plan 2.5 hours.

  • Visits to the Palace of Versailles and/or Giverny (Monet’s House) can be done in half a day (at a brisk pace), but they usually take up a full day. So we adjusted our plan by sacrificing a day in Paris in favor of a day in Versailles.

  • Getting around by metro takes 20 to 30 minutes between two locations. We opted for walking by following the routes of our "self-guided walks" that start at the exit of museums or monuments and lead to the entrance of the next museum or monument you want to visit. This will take about 1h30, but you’ll discover 50 times more than by taking the metro or wandering aimlessly through the streets.

  • We planned 30-minute breaks every 2 to 3 hours, scheduling stops for lunch, tea, or pastries.

  • Another option was to alternate, when possible, museums, monuments, and walks. The Marais or Montmartre offer unique atmospheres.

  • We also scheduled evenings (starting at 7 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.) for a romantic dinner, a show, or a renowned neighborhood. Paris is also best enjoyed in the evening.

Your First Visit to Paris in 3 Days: Your Itinerary in Sections (A, B, C, etc.)

Below, you’ll find a reproduction of the organization of a "typical" 3-day stay generated by our Trip Planner. It includes the following sections:

A. Dates of Your Stay: The dates have been arbitrarily set from July 11 to 13 (3 full days, meaning you should arrive the evening before and depart late on the third day).

B. Selecting your interests for your first 3-day visit to Paris

We have chosen Museums, Monuments, Parks, and the "nightlife" as the main points of interest for your stay. These are the top choices for many tourists during their visit.

C. Selected locations for your first 3-day visit to Paris

Our selection includes 12 varied points of interest, aligned with the themes chosen earlier and the duration of your stay (3 days).

Hence, the itinerary below is spread over three days. The day assignments take into account the geographical location of each site to minimize unnecessary and tiring travel.

D. Day 1 itinerary (Day 1 route map)

E. Day 2 itinerary (Day 2 route map)

F. Day 3 itinerary (Day 3 route map)

H. Reminder: reservations for your visits

It is essential to book in advance to avoid waiting at entrances and wasting valuable time. This precaution allows you to see as much as possible during your stay.

Bonus #1: Customize your Paris stay

The typical stay you just reviewed can be enhanced to better match your desires and preferences.

The typical stay above is based on the 3 criteria you’ll find in the paragraph "Excerpt of the stay organization" above:

  1. A. When are you traveling?

  2. B. Choose your interests (types of visits)

  3. C. Selected locations

But you can easily optimize this arbitrary choice that we made. All you need to do is click on our Trip Generator. You can adjust these three parameters A, B, and C to perfectly match your preferences.

In just 5 minutes and 5 clicks, you’ll get your personalized itinerary, tailored to your tastes, half-day by half-day. Plus, all reservations are made online. Feel free to click—no obligation—on the links to the sites you’d like to visit.

Reservations for your transportation (plane, train, or car), as well as your accommodation, are also included. Even suggestions for souvenir gifts for you, your friends, and your family—all at affordable yet high-quality and meaningful prices. You’ll see they have nothing in common with those tacky snow globes or plastic Eiffel Towers!

How does it work?
Click on "Paris Trip Organizer"—it’s completely free. It will save you the hassle of optimizing your stay to fit in as much as possible. In addition to your travel dates (Point A. – Final or provisional), you’ll need to redefine:

1/ Point B "interests" by clicking on the list (Museums, Churches, Monuments, Parks, etc.);
2/ The VPBY Trip Generator will then provide you with a set of relevant guides;
3/ This leads you to point C (Selected Places). You select by clicking on the names of the museums, monuments, parks, or activities you’d like to visit. The Generator suggests at the top of the screen "Smart Organization" to group visits geographically and by duration, avoiding unnecessary and tiring travel;
4/ The Generator returns your itinerary for each day of your stay, broken down by half-day and evening.

This takes just 5 clicks and 5 minutes to generate your personalized itinerary, "tailored" to your tastes. And it's completely free. To use it, click on "Paris Trip Organizer".
