Château de Pierrefonds is an imposing fortified castle built in the late 14th century in the French commune of Pierrefonds. It should be in a visiting Paris with kids program. The Château de Pierrefonds has most of the characteristics of a medieval defensive structure, and is in fact an interpretation of the 19th-century troubadour style, very much in vogue among the wealthy classes during the Second Empire. It was rebuilt for Napoleon III at this time by Viollet-le-Duc, who also undertook extensive decoration and furnishing work.

Châteaux de la Loire

Chambord-castle-of-loire-river

The term “Loire castles” is used to describe a group of French castles located in the Loire Valley. The castles of the Loire Valley have the architectural distinction of having been, for the most part, rebuilt or extensively remodeled in the 15th and 16th centuries, at a time when the court of the kings of France was based in this region or its immediate surroundings. The Renaissance saw the apogee of the Loire Valley’s role within the kingdom of France, from Charles VII and Louis XI, who made Tours their capital, to Henri IV, who brought it back to Paris in 1594, at the end of the Wars of Religion.

Towards the end of the 15th century, the Valois family discovered a new art of living in Italy, which would be transposed to the Loire Valley by the arrival of numerous Italian artists and craftsmen, including the most famous of them all, Leonardo da Vinci.

Numbering close to 3,000, all these châteaux are mainly located in the Centre-Val de Loire and Pays de la Loire regions. With direct or indirect links to the Loire Valley (its history, architecture, etc.), they form the world’s largest concentration of this type of monument.

We have selected a special one day tour from Paris for the three main and beautiful of them : Château de Chenonceau, Château de Chambord and Château de Cheverny. To book the tour click on “Loire Valley: Day Trip with Entry to 3 Castles

Different booking options:

Accommodation: Reservations are strongly recommended

Once you’ve selected what you’re going to see and do in Paris, the next important step is to choose the hotel or apartment that suits you best – and then book it immediately. Barring a miracle, you can’t expect to find accommodation to your liking on the spot.
We have pre-selected two accommodation chains for you where you should find what you’re looking for:

  • Hotels.com, less well-known and more selective than the sector’s main competitor, which is often out of stock. Of course we have check that prices are the same. To book a room click on Hotels.com
  • Abritel.com, which specializes more in large rooms, suites or apartments – at a price affordable to large families – To book large rooms or apartment click on Abritel

Tips

  • We’ve specially created a map of “must-see” places in Paris, to make it easy to locate them geographically. But this map can also help you choose a hotel address as close as possible to the places you’ll be visiting. Note that the map also indicates the “arrondissements” (districts – 1 to 20) that you’ll find in the Hotels.com and Abritel.com lists of available hotels
  • You should stay away from arrondissements 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 for more affordable prices, with equal comfort. But that’s not a problem, as public transport (Metro) is very dense and easy to use (see below). Bus transport is also very dense, but not as fast.

Budget Tips for Families Visiting Paris

Visiting Paris with kids doesn’t have to be expensive. Here are some tried-and-true ways to make your trip more affordable:

Use Public Transportation … and your legs

Les Pass RATP and other low-cost means of transport.

Paris’s public transport system is efficient and covers every part of the city. The Paris Visite Pass gives you unlimited travel, while children under 4 ride free and those aged 4-10 benefit from reduced fares. Buying a carnet (10-ticket booklet) can save money for families who plan to explore a lot by metro or bus.

Paris Touristique is not very large, and can be covered day after day on foot. What’s more, you need to organize your daily schedule around attractions located in the same area – that’s one of the reasons for the first map of this post “Top attractions for visiting Paris with children”.

Pack Picnics

Eating out adds up quickly. Stock up at bakeries and markets and enjoy picnics in the city’s many parks. Classic French sandwiches, pastries, and fresh fruits make for satisfying, affordable meals on the go.

Look for Family Discounts

Many attractions provide special rates for families or free entry for young kids. Always check official websites for current deals, promotions, or family passes before visiting attractions.

Friends and family back home: electronic postcards from Paris to show your friendship

We’ve set up a unique and original system of postcards: they’re electronic (via the Internet), inexpensive, stamp-free, and delivered to your recipient within minutes of being sent. All you have to do is choose the photo of Paris you’d like on the card (from a choice of 20), add your commentary and your recipient’s address (email or whatsapp)… and click.

It gets even better: instead of using one of the 20 photos of Paris, you can choose your own photo of you or your family from your cell phone, which will become the photo on the postcard.

It gets even better: you can “compose” the photo sent by juxtaposing several of your own photos.

Finally, you can transform a simple souvenir postcard into a “gift” postcard: simply choose one of the signed High Definition Collection photos from our photo database. Your recipient will be able to use the photo on a display stand, framed on a rigid base for presentation on a piece of furniture or against a wall. A truly sophisticated gift for the discerning amateur.

How can you return home with high-quality, uncluttered souvenirs of Paris?

Our High Definition Collection photo database is available as an Internet link. All photos are in TIF quality format, in sizes up to 100 x 120 cm for interior decoration or gallery display. These are works of art – but at an affordable price – easy to transport and won’t clutter up your suitcases (it’s simply a web link in your cell phone or home computer).

These High Definition Collection photos come in 3 standard sizes from …. . An extra-large size is also available on request. All photos come with a certificate of authenticity signed by the photographer.

You choose the photo(s) you like, and get a link to it from our photo database. This link allows you to open the photo directly on any computer screen. If you’d like the photo on paper or any other rigid support, framed or unframed, you’ll need to contact your local photographer or visit one of the many specialized Internet sites.

Note: art photos of Paris are also available.

These large-format photos for exhibition or interior decoration are available in a limited edition of 30 numbered and signed prints. They are delivered within 15 days to 3 weeks after order, by special courier, framed or unframed, on special paper or canvas, to be chosen at the time of order.
